Crunchyroll is ready to celebrate Halloween. Starting October 1, the anime streaming service will remove the paywall on select shows for the entire month. To watch the free episodes starting this weekend, you’ll need to create a free user account with Crunchyroll.
Multiple streaming services give their apps a ghoulish refresh for the Halloween season. In addition to Crunchyroll’s offerings, Freeform will air its annual 31 Nights of Halloween special and Paramount+ announced its Peak Screaming lineup. Max, Netflix and Hulu also have dedicated sections for Halloween content.
The service got its start offering a free tier with ads, but removed that option in February, forcing all members to pay a fee to access its content.

Crunchyroll has dozens of free shows and movies, but you can watch even more if you’re subscribed to one of its premium tiers. The Fan tier costs $7.99 a month and unlocks the entire Crunchyroll library. The Mega Fan and Ultimate Fan plans cost $9.99 and $14.99 respectively. In addition to accessing the apps library, these tiers include offline viewing, multiple device streaming, and discounts in Crunchyroll’s store.
