Tubi Review 2020

What is Tubi?

Tubi is an entirely free streaming service for TV shows and movies. It only offers one plan, and there are no upgrade options. The service doesn’t have a paid tier. How is Tubi free? Well, Tubi makes its money from short ad breaks before and during its content. These ads are unskippable, so you’ll have to watch them if you want to take advantage of Tubi’s streaming service.

To access the Tubi TV free library, all you have to do is create an account with an email address. Then, you can watch over 20,000 titles from their library. The catch? Most of its older content since Tubi can’t afford to snag the latest and greatest movies. But as far as this Tubi TV review is concerned, free is free. If there are even a couple titles you want to watch here, it’s worth it.

Every day, Tubi acquires new titles and experiences record growth. The service has partnered with a number of major studios, including Warner Bros., NBCUniversal, MGM, Lionsgate, and others, to continue growing its library. As more and more users flock to the service, the titles Tubi offers will only improve.

What to watch on Tubi

Tubi has over 20,000 titles in its library, and it makes it incredibly easy to navigate through them all. You can search for TV shows and movies through these Tubi categories:

  • Popular
  • Genres
  • Collections
  • Channels

Popular

In each category, Tubi breaks it down even further. Its Popular category includes lists of Featured, Most Popular, Trending, and Recently Added titles. It also has a Leaving Soon! category, so you never miss out on titles that have run their course on the service.

Genres

If you want to get more specific, Tubi breaks down all of its shows into genres. You can search for anything from Anime to Westerns and everything in between. No matter what mood you’re in, you’ll be able to something suitable to watch.

Collections

Tubi’s most interesting way of sorting its library is into Collections. These collections include Award Winners & Nominees, Cult Classics, and Highly Rated on Rotten Tomatoes, to name a few. Interestingly, they also have a collection titled Not on Netflix. If you’ve ever found yourself searching for older titles that don’t appear to be on Netflix, Tubi might be the answer for you.

Channels

Finally, Tubi also sorts its Tubi TV shows by Channels. If any shows or movies first aired on a cable channel, Tubi notes that here. If you’re a fan of A&E or Lifetime, you can click here to find all the shows Tubi offers from those networks.

There’s a reason Tubi isn’t as well-known as its bigger counterparts, like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. While it may be free, its library consists mostly of older titles. You won’t find the latest Avengers movie or recent Oscar winners. That said, you can still find some great classics and hidden gems. For movie buffs who want to round out their collection, or anyone looking to take a deep dive into little-known shows, Tubi’s library is sure to provide you with options.

Tubi features

Since it’s free, Tubi is light on any special features. Still, it does all the basic things you’d expect from a streaming service. You can sign in and pick up watching a movie where you left off. You can also favorite shows for later viewing.

DVR

Tubi has no live streaming shows, so DVR is not a factor here. Its entire library is on-demand so that you can watch it at any time. That said, you will need a W-Fi connection, as you can’t download Tubi’s content to watch offline.

Users

There’s no simultaneous streaming capability, so each user has to create their own account if they want to watch at the same time as someone else in the family. Since Tubi is free, this shouldn’t be too big of an issue.

Parental Controls

Tubi does offer parental controls for its users. Just sign in to the site on your web browser and adjust the settings within your account.

The final cut

One more time, for the people in the back. Is Tubi TV free? Yes! And that’s the most important thing to remember when weighing whether you should sign up for the service or not.

Tubi may not have every title you’re looking for, but its free price tag more than makes up for it. It’s worth giving the service a try and perusing its library. It certainly can’t hurt to add it to your repertoire of streaming services. It’s a new player in the streaming service field, but it’s only going to continue improving its catalog. You never know — the next time you’re searching for a title on Netflix and can’t find it, Tubi may have it.
