TWIST launched less than two years ago, on April 5, 2021. Now, the network that focuses on females between the ages of 25 and 54 has announced it will shut down next week on December 31, 2023.
“Goodbyes are never easy, but at the end of December Twist is going off the air in all of our markets. We are truly grateful to all of our viewers for making Twist a wonderful network. Thank you for all of your support.” The Twist team said in a statement on their website. The stations will be getting replaced in many markets by the new OTA TV stations from Warner Bros Discovery.
The network mostly pulled from NBCUniversal catalog of reality shows like Clean House, Flipping Out Dr. 90210, and Tabatha Takes Over to name a few. Over all the network focused mostly on reality programs. THe network aired mostly on Tegna-owned stations on 144 TV stations covering 62.34% of Americans. The network also streamed for free online.
“With today’s launch of Twist, reality TV just got much more exciting for over-the-air viewers,” said Brian Weiss, president and general manager of Tegna’s entertainment networks said when the channel launched. “Audiences craving lifestyle and reality programming, who have been underserved in the multicast space, now have free access to high quality shows that have never before been available over-the-air.”
At this time, it is unknown what Tegna will replace the network with on its owned networks. IN early 2024 several new TV stations will launch but no word yet if Tegna will offer any of them.
