According to ComScore, the average American household streams 54 hours of video every month. (Or just under 2 hours every day.) Assuming the average data was like Netflix, that would work out to be 162GB of data streamed every month.
That is the average, and ComScore says 20 percent of streamers are considered heavy streamers. Heavy streamers average 145 hours of streaming every month. (Or a little under 5 hours of streaming every day.) That works out to be 435 GB of data an month.
According to ComScore, 18–34 year olds are most likely to be heavy streamers with 21 percent of them falling into the heavy category. Those who are 55+ were least likely to be in the heavy streaming category, with only 9 percent of older Americans saying they stream 5 or more hours a day.
The good news is that Americans can easily watch the TV they want and still stay under their data cap. Even when streaming 5 hours of video a day you are still well under the 1 TB limit many ISPs now have.
