Last August MeTV filed a trademark for a new Toons TV network now they have announced that on June 25 they will launch a 24/7 network dedicated to classic cartoons called MeTV Toons. Now MeTV’s parent company Weigel Brodcasting has confirmed to Cord Cutters News that MeTV Toons will also offer a version of its content on ad supported streaming services.
According to the press release sent to Cord Cutters News, this free version will be a “complimentary offering for ad-supported streaming services.” This likely means it won’t be the same version as you will see with an antenna or on paid streaming services. We don’t know what streaming services will offer the new channel but MeTV says some live TV streaming services will also offer the channel. Right now they have not announced if services like Frndly TV, Philo, YouTube TV or others will offer the channel.
The new network will include many popular classic shows like Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Scooby Doo, Tom & Jerry, George Jetson, Top Cat, Yogi Bear, Popeye, Johnny Quest and Fred Flintstone. Many of these shows had been on Boomerang but have recently left that network. You will also find some cartoons that aired after 2000 show on MeTV Toons.
“We are honored to work with the amazing team at Warner Bros. Discovery and others on this network and bring together a truly incredible collection of the world’s best known and most loved classic cartoons, creating a new destination for everyone to discover or rediscover the sheer joy of watching cartoons on TV,” said Neal Sabin, Vice-Chairman of Weigel Broadcasting Co. “MeTV Toons will be dedicated 24/7 to showcasing the biggest names and most beloved classic cartoons and animated characters. Everyone has a favorite cartoon; it is a universally loved art form. We are thrilled to bring those smiles and memories back to TV with MeTV Toons.”
MeTV Toon TV is coming to free over-the-air broadcast stations. No word yet on if it will come to streaming services like Frndly TV and Philo that already offer MeTV and/or MeTV 2.
Currently, MeTV has not announced what markets this new OTA TV network will come to.
