Have you noticed there are more sports than ever on TV? Suddenly sports you would have never seen on TV in the past, like Pickleball, are now on major networks like CBS. Also, TruTV was rebranded into a sports network as Warner Bros. Discovery looks for ways to offer more sports programming.

So why are we suddenly seeing a flood of sports on television in a way we didn’t a few years ago and far more than 10 years ago? In short, cord cutting.

Increasingly the main reason people stay with a live TV service is sports. To help become more attractive to sports fans networks have been trying to find more sports content to grow viewership.

The second main reason why sports is becoming so popular on TV networks and streaming services is the fact that advertisers pay more for ads during sports programming than traditional programming. The reason for that is most people watch sports live, meaning they are less likely to skip over the ads. Advertisers are actively looking for sports programs to make sure their ads are seen. This helps drive up the cost of these ads, helping offset lost revenue from other areas.

As cord cutting continues to grow look for sports to become even more prevalent on traditional TV services.
