Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating people cancelling cable TV service

All of the options for live TV streaming have their own unique benefits and choosing which one to subscribe to will depend on your personal preferences. In these posts, we compare two live TV streaming services to help you make the choice. Today, we’re taking a look at Hulu with Live TV and Sling TV.

Today, we’re taking a look at Hulu with Live TV vs Sling Blue with the Total TV deal.

Plans and Pricing

While Hulu has several subscription options for ad supported and ad-free viewing, only the Hulu with Live plan offers live channels in addition to the on-demand content you’ll get with the other plans. The Hulu with Live TV plan costs $44.99 per month.

When subscribing to Sling TV, you can choose between Sling Orange and Sling Blue. Both have a regular price of $25 per month. Recently, Sling introduced the Total TV Deal. That deal offers seven of Sling’s add-on channels, along with 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage for an extra $20/month. That brings the total of Sling Blue and the Total TV Deal to $45/month. (You’ll pay the same price for Sling Orange + the Total TV Deal.)

Channel and Price Comparison

When comparing streaming services, we compare the price per channel to give you an idea of the value you’ll get for the price.

With Hulu with Live TV, you’ll pay $44.99 for 67 channels, bringing the cost to $0.67 per channel. (Keep in mind that this doesn’t include the content you’ll get from Hulu’s on-demand library.)

With Sling Blue + the Total TV Deal, you’ll pay $45 per month for 107 channels. That brings the cost per channel to $0.42 per channel.

Channels

While the price per channel can be helpful in comparing the value of each service, the only way to know if one service is better for you than another is by looking at the channels each offers.

Simultaneous Viewing

Hulu Live allows users to watch on two devices simultaneously. You can also add the Unlimited Screens add-on for an additional monthly fee. With that, you can watch on as many devices that are connected to your home network as you want. With the add-on, you can also watch on 3 mobile devices simultaneously.

Sling Blue allows for up to 3 streams at the same time. If you were to combine Sling Blue and Sling Orange, you would add 1 additional simultaneous stream to that.

Cloud DVR

Every Hulu with Live TV subscription comes with 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage to record and watch content. You can also upgrade to the Enhanced Cloud DVR package to increase your storage to 200 hours.

Along with the seven add-ons, the Total TV deal from Sling TV includes the Cloud DVR add-on. With that add-on, you’ll get 50 hours of DVR storage, the ability to record and watch live TV, fast forward through commercials, keep your recordings for as long as you’re a customer, and record multiple shows at once.
