With the 2024 NBA Finals underway, basketball lovers can watch the dramatization of one of the NBA’s biggest off-the-court scandals. FX’s Clipped tells the story of the downfall of former Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling (portrayed by Ed O’Neil).

Based on the ESPN 30 for 30 podcast The Sterling Affairs by Romana Shelburne, Clipped is an eight-episode miniseries created by Gina Welch that airs exclusively on Hulu. The limited series gives fans a behind-the-scenes look at what happened inside the Clippers organization and everything that led to Sterling selling the team. Jacki Weaver stars as Donald’s wife Shelly Sterling, and Cleopatra Coleman portrays his mistress V. Stiviano.

During the later years under Sterling’s ownership, the Clippers began to turn things around under head coach Doc Rivers (portrayed by Laurence Fishburne) and the excitement known as “Lob City.” During most of their existence, the Clippers were one of the NBA’s worst-run franchises and were in the shadow of the Los Angeles Lakers, who they share Crypto.com Arena (then Staples Center) with.

The Lob City Era in LA was known for its ferocious dunks by Blake Griffin (portrayed by Austin Scott) and DeAndre Jordan (played by Sheldon Bailey) from the lobs of point guard Chirs Paul (portrayed by J. Alphonse Nicholson). However, off the court, Sterling was involved in controversy with his erratic behavior that led to a voicemail that shocked the world.
