Back in September, DIRECTV announced a new app would start rolling out with an improved user interface. If you are a DIRECTV customer, including customers on DIRECTV STREAM, and you use Roku, Fire TV, or Android TV you likely will find an updated app on most Roku devices today.
Yesterday DIRECTV emailed customers to inform them that the update is now rolling out to these platforms. DIRECTV has confirmed to Cord Cutters News that this rollout will continue through the next few months into early 2024 depending on your device. There is also no word on the Google TV update yet.
DIRECTV has already rolled this app out to its Gemini streaming players and says Apple TV and more will come in the near future. Some Roku devices have had this update for some time now but now this update is rolling out to more Roku models.
Here is what DIRECTV says will start rolling out:
- One of the big changes will include a simple left-rail menu, a new more visually appealing homepage app carousels, and shortcuts to the most popular features.
- This is part of our focus on reinvesting in a more content-forward user experience making it easier and faster to get customers to their favorite shows, news, movies and sports, whether they’re available directly from DIRECTV or through a 3rd party platform.
- These features will be available to all DIRECTV customers with the latest device.
- We’ll continue to roll out new features through the end of the year and early next.
Here is a quick look at what this new user interface will look like:

If you are hoping to get this new user interface, you will have to wait until DIRECTV updates your device. At this time there is no dates for when some of these updates will come for customers on DIRECTV STREAM using Fire TV, Apple TV, Google TV, and more.
