Atlanta, Georgia, has been the home of the CNN Center for the past 35 years at its CNN Center. Back in 2020, CNN decided it was time to move but waited until after the merger with Discovery and Warner Bros. Late last year CNN move most of its operations out of the CNN center and now as off this week all CNN staff have moved out of the classic CNN Center to its new offices in a different part of Atlanta. This move puts an end to CNN broadcasting out of the CNN Center after using the building for 35 years.
This comes as CNN launched a new studio late last month to help with the move. CNN has also finally this week removed its iconic logo from in front of the CNN Center.
Back in June 2023, former CNN staffers gathered to remember the center and their time there. The party was organized by former CNN Vice President MaryLynn Ryan. June 1st also marked CNN’s 43rd broadcasting birthday, founded back in 1980. Sources report several notable CNN employees were in attendance, including:
“Former CNN anchor Jim Clancy, CNN anchor Amara Walker, former CNN international executive David Clinch, CNN correspondent Ryan Young, former CNN president Tom Johnson, former CNN International anchor George Howell, former CNN Sports anchor Mark McKay, and former vice president and senior editorial director of CNN Worldwide Richard T. Griffiths.”
CNN’s weekday anchors work out of the network’s Washington D.C. and New York centers. The Atlanta building only served as a hub for digital and international operations as well as administrative duties and research. The network will relocate to Warner Bros. Discovery’s nearby Techwood Turner Broadcasting campus, where it was originally from 1980 to 1987. This move will help Warner Bros. Discovery cut costs and save money.
This is one of several major changes CNN Worldwide has initiated this year and over the last few years. This also comes as the network cuts back costs and refocuses under new leadership. This also includes shutting down CNN Airport a few years ago.
CNN has also recently launched CNN Max on the Max steaming service, that many hope will be the start of new growth for CNN.
