AT&T has been slowly been raising the cost of DIRECTV in 2019 and at the start of 2020. Just recently we learned that AT&T would be raising the price of its packages by as much as $8 a month with sports fees going up by $2 a month in January 2020. That is on top of the price hikes that DIRECTV added in January 2019.
In total since January 1, 2019, DIRECTV prices have gone up to $19.90 a month once these most recent price hikes take effect in January 2020.
Not only have the prices gone up for current subscribers but the promotional rate for new DIRECTV customers went up $10 a month back in August 2019. This means the typically cheaper promotional rate for new customers now costs more.
DIRECTV customers now pay $238.80 more every year. Over two years DIRECTV customers will now pay $477.60 more.
Often people ask if cord cutting would ever cost more than cable TV. The only way for that to become a reality would be for cable TV and satellite companies to stop raising their prices. With Comcast, Spectrum, AT&T, and DISH all raising their prices it looks like that won’t happen any time soon.
