YouTube TV Vs. Sling TV: Which is the Better Deal? We Take a Look (Updated July 2019)

Watching TV, Watching, Living Room, Domestic Life, SmilingRecently, we’ve seen some big changes in streaming services, from pricing to channel lineups to new deals for better value. That’s why we’re back with updates to our streaming service comparison posts.

Today, we’re looking at YouTube TV vs Sling Blue with Sling’s new Total TV deal.

Plans and Pricing

YouTube TV has remained at $49.99/month since a price increase in April. The streaming service only has one plan available and before starting your monthly subscription, you can try it out with a 5-day free trial.

Recently, Sling introduced the Total TV Deal. That deal offers seven of Sling’s add-on channels, along with 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage for an extra $20/month. That brings the total of Sling Blue and the Total TV Deal to $45/month. (You’ll pay the same price for Sling Orange + the Total TV Deal.)

Channel and Price Comparison

If you’re looking for the best value in a streaming service, it can be helpful to look at how much you’re paying per channel.

With YouTube TV, you’ll pay $49.99/month for 85 channels, bringing the cost to about 59 cents per channel.

With Sling Blue + the Total TV Deal, you’ll pay $45 per month for 107 channels. That brings the cost per channel to $0.42 per channel.

Channels

While comparing cost per channel can be helpful, it’s the channel breakdown that will help you make sure you’re getting the content you want from your streaming service. When reviewing the lists, keep in mind that channels will vary slightly based on your location, so local channels will depend on where you live.

Here’s what you’ll get with your YouTube TV subscription:

These are the channels you’ll get with Sling Blue + the Total TV Deal. (Note: while the 7 add-ons are the same with the Sling Orange + Total TV Deal, the channels you’ll get will vary slightly.)

Simultaneous Viewing

YouTube TV allows you to stream simultaneously on up to 3 devices. You’ll also have the option to set up 6 profiles for each account, so everyone in the family can personalize their profile with their favorite content.

Sling Blue allows for up to 3 streams at the same time. If you were to combine Sling Blue and Sling Orange, you would add 1 additional simultaneous stream to that.

Cloud DVR

Your YouTube TV subscription comes with a Cloud DVR with unlimited storage. You can record shows simultaneously and watch from any of your devices.

One of the best part of the Sling TV Total TV Deal is the addition of 50 hours of Cloud DVR storage. With that add-on, you’ll be able to record and watch live TV, fast forward through commercials, keep your recordings for as long as you’re a customer, and record multiple shows at once.
