YouTube TV has begun a significant rollout of its redesigned Live Guide to the mobile apps on both Android and iOS platforms as of early 2026. This update brings the smartphone experience into closer alignment with the version that first appeared on television interfaces back in 2023, marking a notable update in how users browse and interact with live content on smaller screens, as spotted by 9to5Google.

In the previous mobile Live tab, the interface featured a straightforward list format. The channel currently highlighted at the top of the screen displayed an automatic preview playback, allowing quick visual sampling of what was airing without additional effort. This setup prioritized speed and simplicity, enabling viewers to flip through options rapidly while a live snippet played in the background.
The new redesign shifts toward greater information density and a more structured layout reminiscent of traditional cable guides. Channel icons and logos now appear prominently on the left side of the screen, housed in dedicated bubbles for clearer visual separation. Program details occupy separate bubbles to the right, displaying essential information such as the current show’s title, start and end times, and a progress indicator showing exactly how much time remains in the broadcast. This added visibility helps users gauge upcoming content more effectively without needing to scroll excessively or open individual channels.
Navigation enhancements further improve usability during browsing. A prominent red “Jump to live” button sits at the bottom of the screen, providing a quick way to return to the current moment after exploring future programming by swiping horizontally or vertically. The “Sort” menu has been relocated to the top-left corner, offering convenient access to options for reorganizing the guide based on preferences like favorites or categories.
To access a channel preview in the updated interface, users must long-press on a program tile. This gesture triggers a floating sheet that overlays the guide, revealing not only the live preview but also a detailed description of the episode, along with practical actions. These include adding the show to the library, setting a reminder for future airings, jumping directly to the program, or navigating to the full channel. The floating sheet design keeps the interaction contained and non-disruptive, avoiding the docked panels seen in other YouTube services.
While the Live Guide has received this comprehensive refresh, YouTube TV’s overall mobile app has not yet fully adopted the company’s latest design language. Elements like the Library and Home tabs remain unchanged in style, and the bottom navigation bar continues to use the older icon set, creating a somewhat hybrid appearance compared to the more unified look in the main YouTube app or YouTube Music.
This redesign reflects YouTube TV’s ongoing efforts to enhance mobile usability for live streaming, particularly as viewers increasingly rely on phones for quick checks or on-the-go watching.
