YouTube TV is continuing to see strong growth as it reportedly added 600,000 new customers in the 3rd quarter of 2023, according to the Leichtman Research Group. Much of this growth is being pushed by NFL Sunday Ticket and the start of college football season.
YouTube TV now reportedly has about 6,500,000 TV customers. This would put it in 5th place, just behind DISH, which has 6,720,000 subscribers. Comcast is still in first place with 14,495,000, followed by Spectrum at 14,379,000 and DIRECTV with 11,850,000.
At this rate of growth and with DISH’s recent declines in subscribers it is very likely that YouTube TV by the end of 2023 will become the 4th largest live TV service in the United States. This includes both streaming and cable TV companies.
Here is how the top live TV streaming services finished the 3rd quarter of 2023 based on subscribers.
- YouTube TV 6,500,000
- Hulu + Live TV 4,600,000
- Sling TV 2,120,000
- Fubo 1,477,00
Fubo was the second fastest-growing live TV service, with 310,000 new subscribers, followed by Hulu + Live TV at 300,000 new subscribers. Sling TV added 117,000 new subscribers.
Still, even with the additions in streaming cable TV networks lost 465,761 subscribers int he 3rd quarter of 2023. Increasingly many cord-cutters are ditching live for on-demand only services to save money.
