Ever hear a strange noise while streaming YouTube TV? It’s not your ears playing tricks on you. There’s a glitch in the service that plays an unexpected noise or start up sound not intended to play during the program. If you pause a video and rewind, the sound most likely won’t play again during the same spot or probably for the rest of the video. The sound appears to be apropos of nothing.

Subscribers have been reporting this noise for some time now and most claim the sound is frequent enough to be bothersome. Maybe it’ll play after twenty or thirty minutes, maybe a few hours, maybe not at all for some. Some YouTube users have said they’ve even heard the sound while a video is paused.

Roku seems to be the most device that is experiencing the start up sound glitch. Unplugging and rebooting a Roku device isn’t the solution. Fire TVs users are also reporting this problem, but not nearly to the extent of Roku users. The sound plays in the background of videos, not really affecting the video’s own sound other than a bit of extra noise sprinkled in.

A YouTube representative responded to member concerns last month:

“Just wanted to let you know that this has been fixed! The engineers were able to figure out what was causing the sound to play after the app opened, and rolled out an update to fix it. You may have to reinstall the app, but this shouldn’t happen anymore.”

Updating the app or even uninstalling it and downloading it again doesn’t seem to fix the problem. YouTube has been working on a solution to this problem for over a month now but it is still an ongoing issue.

Earlier today, another YouTube representative addressed the concerns, saying they had “passed along this start up sound issue to the engineering team and will keep you posted when I have updates to share.”
