Have you noticed a slight improvement in picture quality? You are not crazy as YouTube TV has been working to improve the quality of some channels and bring an improved 1080p experience to subscribers.

The first thing you will notice is some channels like Start TV have seen improved picture quality. This was confirmed by a YouTube TV employee on Reddit who said “We made some changes to Start TV this week to improve quality. We take the feedback seriously and aim to keep improving quality on these channels.”

Also, YouTube TV is bringing its improved 1080p picture quality to YouTube TV with its 1080p Enhanced mode. Google has confirmed to Cord Cutters News that this new Enhanced 1080p60 is coming to YouTube TV and Primetime Channel viewers that have a 4K-compatible streaming device. This will be YouTube TV’s highest quality video they offer.

Back in April 2023, YouTube TV started to test out improved picture quality. You will see an improved image now live on YouTube TV. Any 4K device that supports VP9 codec, a coding format developed by Google, should be seeing better HD images with a higher bitrate. The good news is VP9 is supported by many streaming players, including Rokus and Fire TVs. Google also said it will be working with the NFL to air all league games in 1080p and this will include a combination of original 1080p feeds along with upscaling some games from 720p to 1080p.

Now, though, YouTube TV is bringing its Enhanced 1080p from YouTube to YouTube TV that started to hit YouTube back in April 2023 on mobile and August on other devices. This advanced version of 1080p seems to be similar to what YouTube is doing by offering a crisper-smother image, especially for sports streaming. YouTube TV has promised higher bitrates for some time now, but now it seems to be rolling out to more devices, including the Apple TV.
