Today YouTube announced a new streaming player that will let you watch your YouTube video in a window on your TV and brows comments and other info about the video. It was also announced that this new feature would be coming to YouTube TV.
With this new player, YouTube TV customers will be able to put their show, movie, or game in a window mode that takes up about 2/3 of the screen and use the other 1/3 to browse the different views, and other details like stats, key plays, scores, and the like. Google confirmed to Cord Cutters News that this feature will be coming to YouTube TV soon. This new feature will be available only on TVs.
Here is how it will look on YouTube:
YouTube is making this changes based on feedback from subscribers. According to Google here is what subscribers said they wanted:
- The new design works for features that require equal or more attention than the video itself (e.g. comments, description, live chat) but obscuring the video would be detrimental to the viewing experience.
- We need to continue to prioritize simplicity over the introduction of additional lightweight controls.
- A one size fits all solution may not be the best approach, as features such as live chat and video description benefit from different levels of immersion.
Sadly Google did not say what streaming players and smart TVs would get this feature first but expect it to roll out to all models in the future.
