PlayStation 4 Large

Good news for PlayStation Vue subscribers who use a PlayStation 4. YouTube TV staff have confirmed that YouTube TV will be coming to the PlayStation 4 “soon” according to a post on Reddit from an official YouTube TV employee.

According to sources inside Sony the rights to be the recommended replacement of PlayStation Vue and rights to have your app added to the PlayStation 4 was put up for sale recently. We already knew that Google won the rights to be the recommended replacement for PlayStation Vue but the question now is will YouTube TV also be the first app to appear on the PlayStation 4. For now, all signs point to Sony having agreed to add YouTube TV to the PlayStation 4 first.

A few months ago we learned that Sony had put uprights to get access to PlayStation Vue’s 500,000 subscribers up for bidding. The winner was to be picked last back in December and recently Sony has started to promote YouTube TV as a replacement service for PlayStation Vue. According to sources inside Sony, Cord Cutters News learned that Sony was selling the ability to market directly to PlayStation Vue subscribers through a bidding process.

Here is the email Sony sent PlayStation Vue subscribers today:

We are writing to share some updates on the PlayStation Vue service.

– All active subscribers will continue to enjoy Live TV, On Demand and DVR programs until the service end date of January 30, 2020.

– In December 2019, subscribers will receive a final bill for PlayStation Vue for the month of December.

– The month of January 2020, will be at no charge, and subscribers will receive an automated billing notification with a $0.00 charge.

– All subscriptions and the service will automatically end on January 30, 2020.

Recently Cord Cutters News asked our readers who have PlayStation Vue which service they plan to switch to after PlayStation Vue shuts down. Overwhelmingly, they said YouTube TV.

This may not be a surprise as the two services share similar features like an unlimited DVR and similar channel lineups. What is maybe most interesting is that YouTube TV had more than triple the votes of the next service on the list, Hulu.

A surprising number of subscribers said they didn’t plan to replace PlayStation Vue and would instead use on-demand only services, antennas, or some other way of getting TV other than a live TV streaming service.
