YouTube TV announced today that it will be raising its monthly subscription price by $10, from $72.99 to $82.99, effective January 13, 2025. The streaming television service cited the rising costs of content and ongoing investments in service quality as the reasons for the increase. This comes as earlier this week they said reports of a price hike was just an advertising error.

In a message to subscribers, the YouTube TV team acknowledged the impact the price change will have on its members, stating, “We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we realize this has an impact on our members.”

Despite the price hike, YouTube TV emphasized its commitment to providing valuable features such as unlimited DVR storage and multiview, as well as a wide selection of live channels and an extensive on-demand library of movies and shows.

In a statement on X YouTube TV said:

A message for our members: we have always worked to offer the content you love, with features to enjoy the best of live TV. To keep up with rising content costs, we’re updating our monthly price to $82.99/mo. New members will see this price today; current members starting January 13. We hope YouTube TV continues to be your go-to TV service, but if you need to pause or cancel, family managers can do so at http://yt.be/ytvpse. We don’t make these decisions lightly, and we realize this impacts our members. The new pricing will take effect with the first billing cycle on or after January 13, 2025. Subscribers currently on a trial or promotional pricing plan will not be affected by the change until their promotional period ends.

YouTube TV reassured users that they can view their current plan details in the settings menu and reiterated the ability to pause or cancel their subscriptions at any time. The company also directed users to their Help Center for more information.

“With lots of exciting shows and live events ahead in the new year, we’ll continue to strive to deliver the best of TV, all in one place,” the YouTube TV team concluded in their message.

This price increase marks the latest in a series of adjustments within the streaming television landscape, as providers grapple with increasing content acquisition costs and competition. It remains to be seen how subscribers will react to the change and whether it will impact YouTube TV’s market share.
