YouTube TV has officially added the full suite of C-SPAN networks to its base subscription package, marking one of the most significant additions of non-commercial, public-affairs channels in the streaming service’s history. The move, effective immediately, brings C-SPAN, C-SPAN2, and C-SPAN3 to all YouTube TV subscribers at no additional cost beyond the standard monthly rate.
This comes as earlier this week Cord Cutters News confirmed that it would be added this week.
The inclusion means that millions of cord-cutters now have uninterrupted access to live, gavel-to-gavel coverage of the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate floor proceedings, congressional hearings, presidential events, and a wide range of policy conferences and historical programming without needing a separate cable subscription or over-the-air antenna. C-SPAN3’s weekend focus on American history, including its popular American History TV block, also becomes instantly available.
YouTube TV’s decision stands out because C-SPAN has historically resisted bundling with traditional pay-TV distributors that demand carriage fees. In recent years that has changed though and its now on YouTube TV. The addition of C-SPAN helps expand YouTube TV’s robust news lineup.
With this change, YouTube TV’s base package now exceeds 100 live channels, further solidifying its position as one of the more comprehensive over-the-top alternatives to cable. The service also continues to include unlimited cloud DVR storage and the ability to stream on three devices simultaneously, features that make extended coverage of marathon Senate filibusters or multi-day confirmation hearings considerably more practical.
C-SPAN’s addition comes on the heels of several other recent expansions to YouTube TV’s news offerings, including PBS member stations in select markets. Taken together, the moves appear designed to broaden appeal among older, civically engaged viewers who have been slower to abandon traditional television bundles.
The channels are already appearing in the live guide for existing subscribers, and new customers signing up today will see C-SPAN included from the start. No software update or manual channel refresh is required, as the networks are being pushed automatically to all active accounts.
For a streaming platform often criticized for prioritizing entertainment and sports content, carrying the unfiltered proceedings of American government represents a notable commitment to informational programming that generates minimal advertising revenue yet substantial public value. Whether the decision influences other holdout services remains to be seen, but for now, YouTube TV has positioned itself as the most accessible mainstream platform for watching Congress at work in real time.
