YouTube TV has quietly added 10 new local channels to its expansive lineup. This latest expansion brings a total of 10 regional affiliates into the fold, enhancing access to community-focused content for subscribers across the Midwest, South, and Plains states. The service, which already boasts over 130 channels including major networks and unlimited cloud DVR, continues to solidify its position as a leading cord cutting option amid a shifting media landscape where traditional cable viewership has plummeted by more than 20 percent in recent years.

All of the channels added are CW affilaties across the country.

YouTube TV expanded its channel lineup, with the following additions:

  • KCWH (Lincoln, NE)
  • WMBB-DT2 (Panama City, FL)
  • KELO-DT4 (Sioux Falls, SD)
  • WJAC-DT4 (Johnstown, PA)
  • WLTZ-DT2 (Columbus, GA)
  • KARD-DT2 (Monroe, LA)
  • KCWO (Midland-Odessa, TX)
  • KFDX-DT3 (Wichita Falls, TX)
  • KFJX-DT2 (Joplin, MO)
  • KXJB-LD2 (Fargo, ND)

This comes as YouTube TV back in 2023 reached a multi-year agreement with Nexstar Media Group which initially introduced nearly 60 CW stations and has since spurred incremental expansions like these. Now it seems that YouTube TV is slowly continuing to add more CW affiliates as part of this deal.

YouTube TV launched in February 2017 as Google’s ambitious entry into the live TV streaming market, aiming to capture the growing cord-cutting audience. Initially available in five major U.S. cities—New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, and Philadelphia—it offered a modest lineup of around 40 channels, including major networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox, for $35 per month. The service distinguished itself with unlimited cloud DVR storage and a user-friendly interface integrated with YouTube’s ecosystem, appealing to younger viewers seeking alternatives to traditional cable. By leveraging Google’s vast infrastructure, YouTube TV rapidly expanded its footprint, reaching nationwide coverage by early 2019 and striking key deals, such as a multi-year agreement with Nexstar Media Group in 2023, to bolster local channel offerings. Its focus on simplicity—no equipment rentals, no contracts, and a single-tier plan—helped it amass over 8 million subscribers by 2023, despite price hikes that brought the base plan to $82.99 by 2025.

As YouTube TV grew, it evolved to meet diverse viewer needs, adding features like multiview for sports fans and premium add-ons such as HBO Max and NFL Sunday Ticket, secured in a landmark 2022 deal. Despite competition from Hulu + Live TV and Sling TV, YouTube TV’s seamless app integration across devices, support for six household accounts, and promotional offers like $49.99 for the first two months have solidified its market position.
