Back in April YouTube announced plans to launch YouTube kids on smart TVs. Now they are adding YouTube Kids to Android TV players like the Nvidia Shield.

In the past YouTube Kids, the Google app that is made to be a safe place for kids to surf YouTube, has been for phones and tablets only (with the ability to cast your videos to Chromecast devices). Now you will be able to use it on Sony and LG TVs with more support coming soon.

YouTube Kids uses machine learning to filter YouTube to be more friendly for kids. Although it has had issues in the past Google says it has been learning and improving. Google also relies on parents to report videos that are not kid friendly.

To get the new YouTube Kids app on the supported devices you will need to add it from the Google Play Store. Please refer to your device manual for how to update access the Google Play Store if you are unsure of how to do so on your device.
