Yahoo could now be the brand behind your mobile phone service. CNN reported this morning that a Yahoo Mobile service is on the way to launching under Verizon. Yahoo was sold to Verizon in 2017 in a $5 billion deal.

Yahoo Mobile uses Verizon 4G LTE network and includes unlimited talk, text, and data. Customers can choose to bring their own device or purchase through Yahoo. Currently, there is only one plan available, which costs $39.99/month. With the plan, customers will get a Yahoo ad-free mail service account, normally $3.50/month, which includes 1000GB of inbox storage. While the plan includes unlimited everything, there are some restrictions. Speeds are capped at 5MB and limited to one tethered device at a time.

To use Yahoo Mobile, you’ll need a Yahoo email address, which you can create when setting up your mobile account. After setting up your mobile plan, customers will be automatically enrolled in Yahoo Mail Pro and Yahoo Account Pro.

Guru Gowrappan, now the CEO of Verizon Media, told CNN that the addition of Yahoo Mobile is part of a plan to diversify revenue and to increase ad sales, subscriptions, and transactions. He commented that Yahoo is a “really trusted brand” and combining it with Verizon, the “best network in the United States” was the perfect opportunity.

Using Verizon’s 4G LTE network, a large part of the country will be able to use the service. Check out the coverage map to see if your area is covered.
