WOW! Internet Quietly Removed Its Data Caps on Some Internet Plans To Compete With 5G Home Internet

It looks like WOW! Internet made some changes to its service plans to remove data caps from select plans.

Wow!, first added data caps back in 2021 with up to a 3 TB data caps. At the time of publication, the provider’s FAQ page still says it uses data caps to ensure “all customers have a consistent and reliable experience” and that their average customer “uses far less data than their plan includes.”

Right now, according to WOW!’s website, plans of 300 Mbps and above no longer have data caps. Lower end plans like its cheap 100 Mbps service still include data caps. The FAQ page for WOW! still shows data caps but the home page has been updated to promote no data caps on its 300 Mbps and higher plans.

The changes were spotted earlier by a Reddit user.

“I’m in an area that had [data] caps and they’re now gone from my 1 Gbps plan (I had them previously). I’d only uploaded to that plan for the higher [data] cap, so I can save a little money now,” the user wrote in their post.

All internet-only and internet + also now include a Wi-Fi modem in the pricing.

This comes as 5G’s popularity is putting pressure on cable internet providers. In an effort to remain competitive, profitable, draw in customers, and keep existing ones, companies are making changes to their offerings.

For example, in August WOW! shut down its TV service and began offering only YouTube TV to its customers via the internet + TV packages.

Currently, WOW!’s internet-only packages are listed as follows:

According to the offer terms, pricing may change when the “limited time offer expires February 29, 2024.”

Wow wasn’t immediately available for comment.
