Ryan Seacrest’s debut as the new host of “Wheel of Fortune” has proven to be a winning formula for the long-running game show. The syndicated program’s 42nd season premiere captivated audiences, making it the most-watched entertainment series in September across all of broadcast, cable, and syndication according to a report from Variety.
According to Nielsen data, “Wheel of Fortune” averaged an impressive 7.99 million viewers during its premiere month, surpassing all other entertainment programs on linear television, excluding sports and news. Even when compared to news programs, “Wheel” was only outperformed by “60 Minutes.”
Seacrest’s arrival has injected new energy into the show, contributing to its highest-rated premiere month in three years. Viewership is up 12% compared to last year, reaching a total of 40 million viewers in September, according to Sony Pictures Television. The show also saw a 3% increase in the key adults 25-54 demographic.
Early local market data further underscores the successful transition, with the Season 42 premiere achieving a 4.62 household rating, significantly higher than the 2.94 rating for the Season 41 premiere in 2023.
The new season debuted on September 9th with a refreshed set, featuring what Seacrest described as “a lot of lights,” and of course, the highly anticipated introduction of Seacrest as the new host alongside Vanna White.
The strong premiere numbers indicate that “Wheel of Fortune” remains a beloved and enduring fixture in the television landscape. With Seacrest at the helm, the show appears poised for continued success, captivating audiences with its classic gameplay and familiar charm.
