The survey, conducted among avid news readers who have abandoned traditional cable subscriptions, revealed that 9.8% of respondents plan to purchase a Roku device in the near future. This figure significantly outpaces other streaming devices, signaling Roku’s strong foothold in the cord-cutting community.

The appeal of Roku lies in its affordability, user-friendly interface, and access to a vast array of streaming services, including popular platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and Disney+. Its range of devices, from budget-friendly options to more advanced models supporting 4K and HDR, caters to a wide audience, making it a go-to choice for those transitioning away from cable. The survey results suggest that Roku’s reputation for simplicity and versatility continues to resonate with consumers seeking a seamless streaming experience.

In contrast, other streaming devices trailed behind in consumer preference. Despite Fire TV’s competitive pricing and integration with Amazon’s Prime ecosystem, it appears to lag in capturing the attention of this demographic.

The most striking finding from the survey, however, is that 78% of respondents have no plans to purchase any streaming player at all. This significant majority suggests that many cord-cutters are satisfied with their current setups, which may include smart TVs with built-in streaming apps, gaming consoles, or existing devices that meet their needs. The high percentage could also reflect a growing trend of content fatigue or financial caution among consumers, who may be hesitant to invest in additional hardware amid the proliferation of streaming services.

As the streaming wars intensify, manufacturers like Roku, Apple, and Amazon continue to compete for market share, but the survey indicates that Roku holds a clear edge among cord-cutters. For now, the data underscores a cautious approach among consumers, with most opting to stick with their current devices rather than splurging on new ones.
