Weak Wi-Fi is the #1 reason buffering happens on your favorite streaming services. We often like to blame the streaming service when the truth is weak Wi-Fi at your TV results in slow speeds causing buffering.

If you are still using an old Wi-Fi router, you may want to think about upgrading to a new one with Wi-Fi 6E for a far faster Wi-Fi experience offering improved streaming.

So what is Wi-FI 6E? Here is how Cisco describes this new standard:

The key difference between the Wi-Fi 6 standard and the new Wi-Fi 6E extension is that Wi-Fi 6E essentially creates a “fast lane” for compatible devices and applications. The result: faster wireless speeds and lower latency.

The range of Wi-Fi 6E may be shorter than the 5G range but built into a mesh system, it can cover your home with far faster internet.

Increasingly new streaming players like the Fire TV 4K Max Stick have Wi-Fi 6 built into them. According to Amazon, the Fire TV 4K Max supports “next-gen Wi-Fi 6 – Enjoy smoother 4K streaming across multiple Wi-Fi 6 devices.”

There are many Wi-Fi 6E mesh routers, like the Google Nest Wi-Fi Pro or Amazon’s own eero Pro 6E mesh. These are not the cheapest options on the market but if you are looking to invest in the future as more devices support 6E they could help you take full advantage of what your new devices have to offer.

Increasingly you may want to think long-term when buying tech. By buying a Wi-Fi 6E, you could be ready for when you upgrade your other devices in the future.

Always do your research on what you buy. Wi-Fi 6E is still early and may cost more now, but it will help make sure you don’t need to upgrade int he future.
