The question of what streaming services are best or most popular is a hot topic in cord cutting. Many streaming services hide their numbers for subscribers or viewing time. There are ways we can get an idea of just how popular a streaming service is and one of those ways is thanks to Apple’s top 100 list.
Here are all of the streaming apps in Apple’s top 100 apps list as of September 6th, 2023.
- Max
- YouTube
- YouTube TV
- Netflix
- Prime Video
- Hulu
- Disney+
- Peacock
- Tubi
- Paramount+
Max being the number 1 most popular streaming service right now is likely being helped by HBO Max subscribers needing to download the new app after the service was renamed recently. Because of the rebranding, Apple owners needed to redownload the app.
After Max it may be no surprise to see YouTube as the second most popular app, but YouTube TV may surprise many. It is likely getting a lot of help from NFL Sunday Ticket and the start of college football driving up subscribers.
For free, supported services, only Tubi made the list of the top 100 free apps on Apple. Tubi recently announced it now has 74 million active monthly users, up from the 64 million monthly active users it reported in February. This growth is likely helping push the app into the top 100 free apps on Apple devices.
Over all, the rest of the top streaming services are likely no surprise. Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, Paramount+, and Peacock have all seen steady growth in the world of cord cutting.
