Earlier this month, AT&T announced that it had completed the spinoff of DirecTV, creating a separate video business. Within the new company, all streaming offerings will be under the umbrella of DirecTV Stream.

When the announcement was made, there was no launch date for the new DirecTV Stream. Now, the company has updated its website and apps with more information for subscribers.

When Will DirecTV Stream Launch?

AT&T TV subscribers have gotten a notification that AT&T TV will transition into DirecTV Stream on August 26.

Will AT&T TV Packages Change?

No. When AT&T TV becomes DirecTV Stream, subscribers will still be able to choose from four packages:

  • Entertainment Package with 65+ channels for $69.99/mo.
  • Choice Package with 90+ channels and HBO Max included for 1 year for $84.99/mo.
  • Ultimate Package with 130+ channels and HBO Max included for 1 year for $94.99/mo.
  • Premier Package with 140+ channels and HBO Max, Cinemax, Showtime, and Starz included for $139.99/mo.

Will AT&T TV Subscribers Have to Change Account Information?

No, there will be no disruption in service, and all customers’ account information, online access, and billing details will remain the same. “We expect no changes for current AT&T TV subscribers other than the logo on their screens, and customers don’t need to take any action as a result of the transaction,” the website says.

Why Did AT&T Separate Its Video Business?

The company explains in its Frequently Asked Questions section: “Separating from AT&T and creating the new company means that DIRECTV returns to its roots – delivering an outstanding video experience to its customers. With that experience comes choice and value across the product offering under one iconic brand.”

Will Sunday Ticket be Available on DirecTV Stream?

Maybe. While the new name suggests that streamers will get the same content as DirecTV customers, the new streaming service will offer the same packages as AT&T TV. The streaming service will not have the same programming rights as the satellite service. However, it’s possible that the company is allowed by the NFL to offer Sunday Ticket for streamers. In 2018, DirecTV Now subscribers in Los Angeles, Phoenix, Boston, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Hartford, and Louisville had the option of adding Sunday Ticket to their subscription. It’s possible we’ll see a similar offer now that DirecTV is its own business run jointly by AT&T and TPG.
