In a surprising plot twist, Amazon will be getting the final half-season of History Channels drama Vikings before it airs on regular pay-TV. The 10 episodes concluding season 6 will hit be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video Dec. 30, 2020.

“Prime Video has already delighted Prime members with all five and a half seasons of Vikings”, Brad Beale, VP of worldwide content licensing for Prime Video, said in a statement. “Prime members in the U.S., U.K., Germany, Austria and Ireland will be the first to learn the fates of the beloved characters as the epic drama concludes.”

Vikings first aired on the History Channel in 2013 and has since become the network’s most successful production. The first 10 episodes of season 6 ended with a cliff hanger earlier this year. Now, show-runner and writer Michael Hirst is promising a thrilling ending to the popular series.

“Prime Video will uniquely expose the series finale to a streaming audience first,” Hirst said. “Prepare to be astonished, and for many surprises along the way. And if you have tears to shed, then also be prepared to shed them.”
