This week Cord Cutters News had an opportunity to talk with John Curbishley, the newly promoted EVP of Distribution Strategy, Operations, and New Business at Viacom. Curbishley is now responsible for identifying distribution opportunities with new and emerging business, like streaming.
Curbishley will oversee Viacom’s efforts with subscription streaming services, ad-supported streaming services, and traditional providers like cable TV.
According to Curbishley, Viacom wants to offer their content at every price point. This includes both traditional cable TV providers and streaming services. Curbishley said Viacom does not see it as an either or situation in picking between the new live TV streaming services and traditional cable TV companies.
Prior to joining Viacom in 2017, Curbishley held a number of strategy and business development roles including SVP of Business Development at NBCUniversal as well as corporate strategy roles at the BBC. Curbishley reports directly to Tom Gorke, EVP and Head of Distribution and Business Development at Viacom.
