Unsolved Mysteries was a classic mainstay of ‘90s television. Next month, the long-running true crime show will get a tribute worthy of its legacy.

In celebration of Unsolved Mysteries’ 35th anniversary, FilmRise has partnered with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema to bring Unsolved Mysteries: Behind the Legacy, a new hour-long television special co-produced by FilmRise and Cosgrove/Meurer Productions,  to theaters this October. The special will be available to stream for free on ad-supported video-on-demand platforms through Filmrise starting October 5.

Fans can attend the special 90-minute viewing created exclusively for Alamo Drafthouse on October 4. For one night only, Alamo Drafthouse locations will show the special and 30 minutes of fan-favorite moments from the original series.

“We wanted to honor the fans who have played such an integral role in the success of the series both as fiercely dedicated viewers and as case solvers with their call-in tips,” said Sal Scamardo, vice president of marketing and distribution for FilmRise.

The special will have an international release “shortly” after, but no set date has been released yet.

The special will feature interviews with co-creators Terry Dunn Meurer and John Cosgrove and veteran actors, producers, and directors of Unsolved Mysteries. The screening will show a highlight reel of the crew’s favorite segments. Fans can re-experience famous cases in a new light with behind-the-scenes commentary by the crew.

Robert Stack hosted Unsolved Mysteries for 11 seasons, walking the audience through cold cases. The show was one of the first to engage audiences by encouraging anyone with information to call in a tip that could help investigators. The series helped solve 260 cases, according to Decider.

“I am one of the many, many millennials whose Wednesday evenings were spent absorbed in Unsolved Mysteries, and who, in the present day, have been able to binge these classic episodes thanks to FilmRise,” said John Smith of Alamo Drafthouse. “That’s why the opportunity to screen the anniversary special with fellow Stack-olytes at Alamo Drafthouse is truly exciting.”

Founded in 1997 in Austin, Texas, the Alamo Drafthouse has grown to 39 locations across the U.S. Tickets to Unsolved Mysteries: Behind the Legacy are available at DraftHouse now.
