Fox Corporation’s free ad-supported streaming platform Tubi announced today that it will become the first video service in the world to support instant app download and native launch through Matter Casting, Amazon’s next-generation casting standard. Starting next week, users will be able to start watching Tubi on compatible Fire TV devices directly from their iOS or Android phone with a single tap, bypassing the traditional hurdles of searching, downloading, installing, and signing in.

The integration marks a significant leap beyond conventional screen mirroring or older casting protocols like Chromecast and AirPlay. When a viewer selects Tubi content on their mobile device while near a supported Fire TV, Matter Casting automatically triggers the Tubi app installation on the television in the background, authenticates the user securely, and begins native playback within seconds. The entire process happens without manual intervention, creating what the industry is calling a true frictionless over-the-top experience.

Initial rollout will begin next week in the United States on select premium Fire TV hardware, including the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, Fire TV Cube (3rd Generation), and the entire Fire TV Omni QLED and Mini-LED television lines. Global availability across additional Fire TV models is scheduled to complete by the end of the month.

The move aligns with Tubi’s broader strategy of removing every possible barrier between a viewer and the content they want. With a library that now exceeds 300,000 movies and television episodes plus more than 250 live channels, all available at no subscription cost, the platform has positioned itself as the leader in free ad-supported streaming. Monthly active users have surged past 94 million in recent quarters, driven largely by younger, mobile-first audiences who expect instant gratification.

The Matter Casting launch arrives alongside Tubi’s continued investment in original programming aimed at Gen Z and millennial viewers. Recent months have seen the platform premiere youth-oriented titles such as Sideline 2: Intercepted, starring social media star Noah Beck and Disney actress Siena Agudong. Upcoming originals include the high-school romance How to Lose a Popularity Contest featuring Sara Waisglass and Chase Hudson, as well as Kissing Is the Easy Part with Asher Angel and Paris Berelc. Over the past six months alone, Tubi has added more than 10,000 episodes of creator-driven series, further expanding its appeal to audiences who discover content primarily through phones and tablets.

Matter Casting itself is an open standard developed by the Connectivity Standards Alliance, the same organization behind the Matter smart-home protocol. Amazon has taken the lead in bringing the video-focused extension to market, with Tubi now serving as the flagship launch partner. The technology promises broader industry adoption in 2026 as additional streaming services and device manufacturers implement support.

For millions of Fire TV households worldwide, discovering and watching Tubi will soon be as simple as tapping play on a phone.
