Pixar has released the first trailer for Toy Story 5, bringing Woody and Buzz Lightyear back together for a new adventure centered on the challenges toys face in a technology-driven world.

The upcoming sequel follows Bonnie, now 8 years old, after she receives a tablet device called “Lilypad,” voiced by Greta Lee. The story focuses on how the toys struggle as Bonnie becomes increasingly absorbed in electronics and begins missing opportunities to form real-life friendships. Jessie confides in Woody that toys have begun “invading” Bonnie’s home, expressing concern that the device is pulling Bonnie away from playtime.

In the trailer, Woody reflects on the shifting landscape, telling Jessie, “Toys are for play, but tech is for everything.” The film shows Woody and Buzz teaming up once again in an effort to help Bonnie reconnect with the world around her. Buzz greets Woody with, “It’s been too long, cowboy,” signaling their long-awaited reunion.

The preview also incorporates humor about Woody’s age, with characters teasing him about going bald. Trixie jokes that “someone needs a brown marker,” while Forky adds that Bonnie’s tablet assumes Woody is old because of his appearance.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return to voice Woody and Buzz, alongside Joan Cusack as Jessie, Kristen Schaal as Trixie, and Tony Hale as Forky. Additional cast members include Conan O’Brien and Ernie Hudson.

Andrew Stanton, who previously worked as a writer on earlier Toy Story films and directed Finding Nemo and WALL-E, wrote the screenplay and serves as co-director with Kenna Harris. Lindsey Collins is producing.

The enduring Toy Story franchise debuted in 1995 and has remained a major box office success. In each incarnation, it feels like a closing chapter, only to be opened up again and greeted with open arms. When Toy Story 4 was released in 2019, it surpassed $1 billion globally and won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

Toy Story 5 is scheduled to arrive in theaters on June 19, 2026 and sure to live on...to Infinity and Beyond!
