Local news has been hit hard by a weak ad market driving down revenues. To cut costs, Sinclair has started to remotely produce some news programs.
This week, Ashley Paredez announced that she is now the evening anchor for FOX San Antonio, Texas, and ABC 45 News in Greensboro, North Carolina.
In a statement on her Facebook page she said:
I’m the evening anchor for FOX San Antonio but did you know, I’m also the evening anchor for WXLV @abc45news in Greensboro, NC. The station is also owned by Sinclair so I’m on-air for viewers in the Triad at 6 & 11pm. WXLV ABC 45

This move allows Sinclair to not only reduce the number of anchors needed but also the number of studios, cameras, crews, and more.
It saves Sinclair and other local TV station owners a lot of money. During the afternoon in California, they can produce Greensboro’s local news program. After that finishes, they can switch over to produce the local FOX affiliate in San Antonio.
Look for changes like this to become more common. Many local news programs have already relied heavily on preproduced national news programs. This move to not have local anchors is just the next step.
Sinclair still has some local news and on-the-ground reporters, but the studio recordings are now made in a different part of the country.
This is not new. Many weather reports happen from different parts of the county when a fill-in is needed. In 2024, the ability to be anywhere and cover news is becoming more common.
