This Workaround May Help You Keep Your $99 Amazon Prime Membership

Father curled up on the sofa with his two daughters. They are watching a movie with popcorn. This week Amazon announced that they plan to raise their $99 a year Prime membership to $119 a year in June 2018. This adds about $1.67 a month to your Amazon Prime membership. If your renewal happens after the price jump you will have to pay the $119 price for a year-long membership.

This is the first price hike on Prime in over 4 years but a few remembered a workaround that helped last time. Over at Gizmodo’s deal site Kinja they have an idea how to keep your $99 Prime membership at least for 1 more year.

Their suggestion is to buy an Amazon Prime gift membership for yourself at $99. When your renewal date comes you can redeem the $99 gift subscription. This workaround helped last time but don’t be surprised if you end up still having to pay the extra $20.

Don’t forget though Amazon does offer discounts for both Students and EBT/Medicaid recipients that can get a discount on their Prime membership.
