Sally Field is featured on this weekend’s Catchy Binge on Catchy Comedy. The marathon will host 84 episodes of the early days of her career, The Flying Nun, The Girl With Something Extra, and Gidget.

The marathon starts on February 17 at 12:00 p.m. ET with the “Speak The Speech, I Pray You” episode of The Flying Nun. The Flying Nun was a sitcom about a community of nuns living in the Convent San Tanco in Puerto Rico, one of which could fly when the wind caught her cornette, which begs the question from the theme song, “Who needs wings to fly?” Not this deity devotee.

The series ran from 1967 to 1970 and is based on The Fifteenth Pelican by Tere Rios. The show stars Field, Madeleine Sherwood, Marge Redmond, Shelley Morrison, Alejandro Rey, Linda Dangcil, and Vita Scotti. The show was unique for the era in that it blatantly showed Sister B’s unique ability, at least within the confines of the nunnery, unlike other supernatural sitcoms like Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie, whose magic-rearing leading ladies had to hide their powers.

It concluded with 82 episodes, which showed time and time again that “when lift plus thrust is greater than load plus drag, anything can fly.” Cord Cutters News has tested this theory and found it faulty at best, but for Sister Bertrille, it worked like a charm. While Field was the Flying Nun for three seasons, Sister Bertrille wasn’t the original high-flying sister. That nod goes to Sister Mary Aquinas, the world’s first nun to learn how to fly a plane in 1943, earning her the moniker.

The binge continues by switching sitcoms at midnight on February 18 to The Girl With Something Extra‘s “Sally On My Mind,” where the newly wedded John Burton learns his new wife can read his mind, literally. Sally’s ESP provides a wealth of conflict for the couple, as John has a bit of a wandering eye and an occasional guilty client to represent.

At 9:30 a.m. on February 18, catch Field in Gidget’s “Dear Diary – et al.,” as a young girl who takes up surfing to befriend some dude. The last Gidget episode runs at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday with “Ask Helpful Hannah” before the Catchy Binge switches back to The Girl With Something Extra at 1:30 a.m. on February 19. The nod to Field’s sitcoms concludes with “Super And Spice And A Quarterback Sneak” at 5:30 a.m. on Monday.
