Yesterday Philo’s CEO Andrew McCollum posted about a little Easter Egg is hidden in Philo. If you search for “streaming killed the video star” suddenly MTV Classics will be added to your Philo membership for all Philo subscribers.
MTV Classics offers classic 1980s and 1990s MTV to your house. Classic MTV Shows, including “Daria,” “Beavis & Butt-head,” “Aeon Flux,” “Run’s House,” “Pimp My Ride,” “Cribs,” “Jackass,” “Punk’d,” “Wonder Showzen,” and “Clone High,” will be aired on MTV.
Here is the full post from Reddit:
Andrew McCollum here — CEO of Philo. It’s been a little over a year since we launched, and I wanted to take this opportunity during Thanksgiving week to thank this community for its warm welcome and awesome feedback. We’ve been working hard to create the best TV experience out there, and we’re just getting started!
Since we launched we’ve added 9 new channels — the Hallmark family, Revolt, aspireTV, UPtv, Tastemade, People, and Cheddar Big News; we built apps for iPad, Apple TV, and Fire TV; we’ve started rolling out Guide across all our platforms (the rest are coming soon); we added unlimited $5 friend referrals; and we launched profiles so you can share your account with others. It’s been a whirlwind year.
I’m also happy to announce that we have two fun surprises for the holidays. First, we created an option to buy Philo gift cards for friends and family (or yourself!) that include a discounted price on the 55 channel package for 6 months. We call them “GIFt Cards” and we’ve picked some fun GIFs that you can get printed on a physical card (more options coming soon). Since Philo takes something physical (TV) and makes it digital, we thought it would be funny to take something digital (GIFs) and make them physical.
Second, we hid a little “Thanksgiving egg” in the service for subscribers to find. To find it, try searching for “streaming killed the video star” and see what comes up. (FYI: for now, it won’t work if you signed up with Roku Pay, or before you pick a package and add a card during the trial period.)
Wishing you all a great Thanksgiving and holiday season. As always, let us know what else you’d like to see!
Enjoy!
