Gray Media, Inc. has announced a significant expansion of its television portfolio through a $171 million agreement to acquire ten television stations from Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, Inc. The deal, disclosed on August 8, 2025, will enhance Gray’s footprint in local broadcasting by entering three new markets and strengthening its presence in seven others through the creation of duopolies. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approvals, including waivers of FCC local ownership rules, and other customary closing conditions.
The acquisition includes stations in Huntsville, AL (WAAY, ABC), Paducah-Cape Girardeau-Harrisburg (WSIL, ABC), Evansville, IN (WEVV, CBS/FOX), Fort Wayne, IN (WFFT, FOX), Montgomery, AL (WCOV, FOX), Lafayette, LA (KADN, FOX/NBC), Columbus-Tupelo, MS (WTVA, ABC/NBC), Rockford, IL (WREX, NBC), Terre Haute, IN (WTHI, CBS/FOX), and West Lafayette, IN (WLFI, CBS). These stations were selected based on their top all-day ratings in their respective markets in 2024, as reported by Comscore, ensuring Gray acquires high-performing assets.
The deal marks Gray’s entry into three new markets—Columbus-Tupelo, Mississippi; Terre Haute, Indiana; and West Lafayette, Indiana—while bolstering its operations in seven existing markets through duopolies. These duopolies are expected to enhance Gray’s ability to deliver robust local news, weather, and sports programming, reinforcing its commitment to community-focused broadcasting.
Pending FCC approval, Gray anticipates a seamless integration of these stations, with plans to leverage their top-rated status to drive innovation in local content delivery. This move underscores the ongoing consolidation in the broadcast industry as companies seek to strengthen their regional influence and operational efficiency.
