In April 2016, Starz followed the lead of HBO and Showtime by creating their own standalone streaming service. The Starz app features original content, recent and classic movies, and some hidden gems.
The standalone service combined Starz Play, Encore Play, and MoviePlex. Now, all of the content for those apps can be found in one place, with one subscription.
With the Starz app, you can register up to 4 devices, making it easy to watch shows and movies at home or on your mobile device while traveling. You can stream on up to 4 devices simultaneously.
Starz on Amazon
Starz is one of the premium channels offered by Amazon as an add-on to a Prime Video subscription. While it costs the same to subscribe to Starz as a standalone, there are some benefits to using Amazon channels instead.
- All of your content is kept on the same platform. That means less switching from one app to another to watch shows and movies.
- You can manage all of your subscriptions from Amazon. You’ll see a list of the channels you’re already subscribed to, along with those you’re testing out with a free trial.
- You’ll use your saved payment method from Amazon to auto pay for your channels each month, so you’ll have less accounts to think about.

Using the Starz standalone streaming service will cost you $8.99/month, after a one week free trial.
You’ll also pay $8.99/month to add Starz as an Amazon channel.

Content and Features
The Starz app is well organized and easy to use. When you login, you can look for content in the featured, series, and movies sections. There, you’ll find originals like Power, Outlander, Magic City, and Boss. You’ll also find the most recent episode of series, new movies, and classics. For Starz original series, the episodes go up on the same day that they air live.
Starz puts their content into helpful categories to make it easy to find shows and movies that you’ll probably like. You’ll see all of the typical genres, including comedy, action, and documentary. You can also browse categories like Badass Ladies, Family Favorites, and recommendations based on what you’ve already watched.
