The Roku Channel offers more than 100 live TV channels, including content from CNN, NBC, ABC, CBS, and other networks for free. Could it replace cable TV, allowing you to save over $1,000 every year? Let’s look at whether The Roku Channel can be a replacement for cable TV.

In 2024, The Roku Channel offers thousands of movies and TV shows with hundreds of live TV channels from more than 200 partners. In recent years The Roku Channel expanded its lineup by partnering with major networks including NBCUniversal, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Paramount.

The catch, though, is even though The Roku Channel offers content from the cable network Buzzr, it is not the same live feed that you would see with cable TV. Also, you may get local news, but you would get local prime time programing from your local ABC affiliate.

What you will find are 24/7 feeds of channels like Criminal Minds and more. Some of the most popular channels are Dateline 24/7, Murder She Wrote 24/7, Ion, and Divorce Court.

The Roku Channel has sports but won’t offer ESPN, for example. If you just want something to watch, The Roku Channel may be a great way to watch thousands of movies and TV shows for free with ads. It’s even better if you can also use an antenna to watch your local ABC, CBS, FOX, and NBC channels.

The ability for The Roku Channel to replace cable TV really depends on you. For those who want sports, this will not be the right choice for you. For those who just want some daytime TV, The Roku Channel may be a great option for you.

The Roku Channel is available on a range of devices, including Roku, Fire TV, and Google TV.
