Roku is making a big splash in the Canadian streaming market with the announcement that The Roku Channel now offers over 150 free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channels to viewers in Canada. This significant expansion of its free content library reinforces Roku’s commitment to providing a diverse and entertaining streaming experience for Canadian audiences.

“The variety you can now find on The Roku Channel in Canada is a big reason we’re proud of this FAST milestone,” said Jennifer Vaux, Vice President of Content Acquisition & Programming at Roku Media. “Having more than 150 linear channels reflects our ongoing commitment to a curated, entertaining experience for Canadian audiences.”

New Channels Galore

Roku has added a wide array of new channels to its Canadian lineup, including:

  • News: CTV @ Home, CTV Laughs, Noovo Cinéma, CBC News local channels (Manitoba, Quebec, and Nova Scotia)
  • Sports: TSN The Ocho, Wicked Tuna
  • Entertainment: Corner Gas Channel, Zoomer Television, EarthDay 365, Heartland, Murdoch Mysteries, The Graham Norton Show, The Ed Sullivan Show

These additions complement The Roku Channel’s existing library of free content, which includes movies, TV shows, and Roku Originals.

Focus on Free, Ad-Supported Content

The expansion of FAST channels on The Roku Channel highlights the growing popularity of free ad-supported streaming. As consumers seek more affordable entertainment options, FAST channels provide a compelling alternative to subscription-based streaming services.

Accessibility

It’s important to note that free content on The Roku Channel is exclusively available on Roku streaming players and Roku TV models in Canada. This strategy encourages the use of Roku devices and provides a competitive advantage in the Canadian streaming market.

Looking Ahead

Roku’s commitment to expanding its FAST offerings in Canada signals its dedication to providing a comprehensive and accessible streaming experience for Canadian viewers. With a diverse and growing library of free content, The Roku Channel is well-positioned to attract and retain viewers in the competitive Canadian streaming landscape.
