The NHL’s Free TV App Just Got Upgraded for Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV, and Roku

Sports fans can now check out the National Hockey League’s app on Apple TV, Android TV, Fire TV, and Roku.

In partnership with sports streaming distribution platform Viewlift, the NHL updated its free app to allow hockey enthusiasts to build a personalized feed of condensed games, special features, and other content, according to a release. The refreshed app also includes league-wide content like highlights, must-watch moments, top goals, saves, and plays as well as “Weird NHL,” which spotlights humorous sports moments.

“The redesigned NHL app gives fans easy and engaging destinations to catch all the latest highlights and recaps of their home teams and the League overall. ViewLift’s expertise in sports streaming is ensuring that we can curate and present compelling content to our fans,” Nili Doft, NHL’s senior vice president of digital media, said in a statement.

The new TV support gives hockey fans more ways to access sports content without cable TV. Earlier this year, Roku in conjunction with cloud-managed broadcast service Amagi added a free NHL channel to its platform. The NHL also has 100 exclusive games airing on ESPN, ABC, ESPN+, and Hulu this season.

“The NHL has taken hockey’s speed and athleticism to elevated levels, and these new-look NHL apps on major large-screen devices bring the action to fans around the world,” ViewLift CEO, Rick Allen, said. “With must-see hockey content, this is a real treat for sports fans as we head into the holidays.”
