The Super Mario Bros. Movie is coming to Peacock next month after netting $1.3 billion during its theatrical release on April 5th. The film was in theaters for forty-one days and now is scheduled to stream exclusively on Peacock.

The film follows the typical Mario Bros plot with a bit of a twist. The Super Mario Bros. Movie follows the origin story of a plumber named Mario (Chris Pratt) who travels through an underground labyrinth with his brother Luigi (Charlie Day) and Princess Peach (Anya Tayor-Joy) to stop Browser (Jack Black) from taking over the world. Keegan-Michael Key voices Toad while Seth Rogen is Donkey Kong and Fred Armisen is Cranky Kong.

The Peacock debut comes along with behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast. Deadline reports the film will be accompanied by an “immersive Field Guide expanding the film through bonus features, and a lyric video for a song sung by Princess Peach.”

As reported by The New York Times, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has “generated more than $75 million in premium VOD revenue since May 16th,” making it the top-grossing movie of the year so far. The film beat out Jurassic World: Dominion, The Croods: A New Age, and Sling 2, which each earned over $50 million in VOD sales.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie has also ranked the third highest-grossing title in animated film history. The Super Marios Bros Movie is written by Matthew Fogel, and directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic. The film was produced by Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto.

Peacock is aiding studios in regaining control over when to release content to streaming services after or accompanying a theatrical release. NBCUniversal earlier this year said studio revenues for film and series have increased to $11.6 billion, up by 23 percent compared to last year.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will make its streaming debut exclusively on Peacock starting August 3rd.
