The beta launch of the Hulu on Disney+ app is off to a solid start.
During a livestreamed fireside chat on LinkedIn on Thursday, Disney President of Global Advertising Rita Ferro said the service “has far exceeded every metric we had planned for it in the short period of time that we’ve had it.” As first spotted by the StreamTVInsider.
Disney took full control of Hulu after buying out Comcast’s stake in the streaming service. This cleared the way for the media titan to merge Hulu content with Disney+. The merger is a big reason why analysts predict Disney will hit its goal to achieve profitability this year.
In addition, Ampere Analysis said in December that the combined catalogue would be “one of the most well rounded and popular offerings in a single platform.”
The new app is also likely to be attractive to viewers who are overwhelmed by the sea of streaming service choices available today. During the interview, Ferro said that having Hulu on Disney+ was a way for bundle consumers to access all the content they want in an easier way.
“And so, when you give them the ability to discover that they have that content accessible in the experience they’re viewing it in, they spend more time on that content,” Ferro said.
In short, the Hulu on Disney+ app has a lot working in its favor ahead of its full launch in March.
For now, you’ll likely notice some new content crossovers in your respective Disney+ and Hulu subscriptions. For example, the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series is available to watch on either platform along with shows like Storage Wars, The Curse of Oak Island, Ax Man, and Forged in Fire.
