The Free Roku Channel Gets a New App and More Content

Along with big announcements about new devices and an OS 9.4 update this morning, Roku shared news about its free streaming service The Roku Channel. Announcements for the service include an all new app to watch content anywhere, anytime, and a slate of new content for even more options for free shows and movies.

First up, Roku is launching a new Roku Channel app for iOS and Android devices. The all new mobile app brings free and premium content from The Roku Channel to mobile. Viewers can use the app to watch free live and on-demand content, as well as access premium subscription content (for those who sign up via a Roku device or via www.therokuchannel.com.)

The Roku Channel is also expanding its free channel lineup for US viewers with new channels including

  • Cinedigm’s Bloody Disgusting TV
  • The Craftistry from Studio71
  • Circle, HappyKids.tv
  • Hi-YAH! – The Martial Arts Channel
  • iFood.tv
  • The LEGO Channel
  • Maverick Black Cinema
  • MOVIESPHERE
  • Skills + Thrills
  • VENN
  • WeatherSpy

Along with those new channels, The Roku Channel will be adding Spanish-language entertainment including Sony Canal Novelas, Sony Canal Comedias, and Sony Canal Compentencias from Sony Pictures Television and Tastemade en Español, starting September 29.
