This week FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel announced a new plan to bring 5G coverage to more than 14 million American homes and business in rural America. This plan comes from new data acquired in its updated broadband coverage map with the hope to bring 5G Internet to Americans who need it.

“For the first time in our history of supporting wireless networks through the universal service system, this agency has comprehensive data about where service is and is not all across the country,” said Chairwoman Rosenworcel. “This will be the foundation of our plan to expand the 5G service in rural America to where it is needed most—where people live, work and travel.”

For now, this $9 billion will be focused on voice and mobile 5G broadband to rural America. Once that network is built it will be possible to use that network to someday offer 5G home Internet to more Americans.

5G Internet can someday close the Internet gap for millions of Americans living in rural America performing jobs that make this country run. Slowly new Internet services like SpaceX’s Starlink and 5G are offering the possibility of real high-speed Internet to millions in rural U.S.A.
