The Dangers of Buying an Expensive Fully Loaded “Kodi Box”

Authentic scrambled reception on a TV screenRecently preloaded so-called “Kodi Boxes” have become popular. These boxes sometimes cost $300 or $400 each and promise free access for life to everything from cable channels to movies still in theaters.

According to reports, these boxes have been selling by the hundreds of thousands. You can find them at flea markets, malls, and even military bases here in the United States. Now if you decided to buy one or not is really up to you, but there is a real danger we want to bring to everyone’s attention.

Now it is important to know that these boxes are not sold by the team behind Kodi. Rather they are from 3rd parties who add additional software to Kodi and sell them on boxes they promote as “Kodi Boxes.”

Recently many of these box manufacturers have started to vanish. Several lawsuits have started targeting the software developers and the box manufacturers. If you buy one of these boxes, you run a real risk that one day they will just stop working with no one to update or fix them.

This happened just this past week and Cord Cutters News has been flooded with calls and emails about it. There was a “Kodi Box” recently with a similar name to our site. Owners of that box this week woke up to find the box no longer worked. When they went for help they found the website, phone numbers, and email address for the seller no longer work.

Not only that it seems the back end that the box connects to was shut down and it no longer is able to update.

Many of the buyers have been contacting us complaining about spending over $300 and now the box no longer works. We have heard from every walk of life including military families who are now out in one case over $600 after they purchased several of these boxes.

Some of these callers had no idea what they used was not legal because they purchased it at a mall, so they assumed it was offering legal streams. Many of them do not have the knowledge or skills to find a workaround and are now out the $300+ they paid.

So remember if you are buying a “Kodi Box” with the dream of a lifetime of free content you run the real risk of waking up one day and finding it no longer working.

“We always recommend buying a box and installing Kodi yourself, and then setting it up the way you like it. Depending on people and companies that are almost certainly doing something illegal to provide long term customer service is never going to result in long term happiness.” said Nate Betzen the Community/Project Manager with Team Kodi.

Consider this a warning as our phones are slowly being flooded with upset customers of one of these boxes. We can’t help and it’s likely you won’t get your money back.
