This week, Criterion Channel, a subscription streaming service full of classic movies this week launched a 24/7 live channel. This streaming service costs $10.99 a month or $99.99 a year and gives you access to thousands of class movies and modern programs including artistic programs along with Masterclasses with David Bordwell.
Now, though, the Crterion channel is taking the work out of finding what to watch with the launch of Criterion24/7. This new channel offers 24/7 classic movies hand picked by Criterion.
Criterion describes Criterion24/7 as “Don’t know what to watch? Let us choose! Click on Criterion24/7 and drop into a steady stream of must-see movies, any time you want.”
This channel is only available to Criterion Channel subscribers. Before the launch of the Criterion Channel, this programming was on Hulu until 2016. After that, the content moved to TCM streaming service FilmStruck until it was shut down, and Criterion decided to launch its own streaming service in 2018.
When the service launched, it had a library of more than 1,000 feature films, 350 shorts, and 3,500 supplementary features, including trailers, introductions, behind-the-scenes documentaries, interviews, video essays, commentary tracks, and rare archival footage. Since it launched though, the number of programs available has slowly grown with new movies and other programs added regularly.
