Fans of AFC Richmond can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Ted Lasso is officially coming back to Apple TV+ for a fourth season. According to Variety, Apple TV+ has renewed the Emmy-winning comedy, with Jason Sudeikis set to reprise his role as the eternally optimistic football coach.
While additional casting details remain unconfirmed, previous reports suggest that options have been picked up for key cast members, including Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift. Show co-creator Brendan Hunt, who plays Coach Beard, will also return as an executive producer alongside Sudeikis, Jack Burditt (30 Rock), Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, and Bill Wrubel.
A New Philosophy for Season 4
In a statement, Sudeikis teased the theme for the upcoming season.
“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’ in Season 4, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”
This announcement finally puts to rest speculation about the show’s future. Season 3 concluded in 2023, tying up many major storylines, including Ted’s decision to return to Kansas to be with his son. However, demand for more Ted Lasso never wavered, and the show’s renewal is a testament to its global popularity.
Since its debut in 2020, Ted Lasso has become one of Apple TV+’s biggest hits, offering a much-needed dose of positivity during the pandemic. The series has won 13 Emmy Awards, including back-to-back victories for Outstanding Comedy Series. Sudeikis and Goldstein have also earned individual Emmy wins for their performances as Ted Lasso and Roy Kent, respectively.
Warner Bros. Television chairman Channing Dungey celebrated the renewal, saying, “If ever there was a show the world needed more of right now, it would be Ted Lasso.”
Apple TV+ head of programming Matt Cherniss echoed the sentiment: “Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter.”
